The largest music streaming platform on the planet, Spotify, are hinting at an entrance into the metaverse through their plans to hire a Web3-focused senior backend engineer. The Swedish-American company took to fellow industry-leading platform LinkedIn to list the job vacancy, which will see the successful applicant join Spotify’s experimental growth team within the platform’s freemium offering.
As per the description of the vacancy, it is evident that Spotify are still in the early days of their Web3 venture, as the successful applicant will be responsible for utilizing new technologies like Web3 to uncover the next growth opportunity, along with building and running experiments on new and existing products.
A senior backend engineer is not the only role in which the platform is offering in order for it to begin delving into NFTs and crypto, as they have also expressed demand to hire a senior manager in innovation and market intelligence who has ‘expert familiarity with emerging trends’, especially those related to Web3.
The news falls after Spotify’s fellow mainstream entertainment platform, YouTube, also kicked off the hiring process for their new director of Web3 product management. As we already know, YouTube’s exploration into Web3 is at a more advanced stage compared to that of Spotify’s.
YouTube previously provided insights with regards to how it plans to leverage NFTs, as well as a description of its vacancy, which is to ‘define, communicate, and execute the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Web3 at YouTube,’ inferring that an extended period of Web3-focused developments has already taken place.
