Comedy connoisseur Bill Murray is teaming up with meme website The Chive, to turn his catalog of classic stories into a unique and novel NFT collection. Set to drop some time in April, each NFT from the ‘Official Bill Murray NFT 1000’ collection will feature an illustration of Murray by artist David Grizzle, along with the text of a Murray-based tale which has either came from the horse’s mouth itself, or from a verified account.
As the project’s title suggests, there will be 1,000 assets in the collection, with April’s inaugural roll-out featuring 100. Through registering their interest in the collection, there will also be the opportunity for one lucky Murray fan to win one of these assets.
As of now, it is unclear as to which of the many Murray stories will be embedded into each NFT, as the iconic actor has tales ranging from strange encounters with fans and fellow celebrities, to driving around an Oakland taxi cab so the driver could practice the saxophone, or to crashing a student party in Scotland and offering to do the dishes, to showing up to a bachelor party and giving an impromptu speech. The narrational possibilities, as the collection’s 1,000 asset count suggests, will be endless.
Instead of hilarious stories, some of the NFTs will contain a philosophical musing of Murray (which will probably still incur an element of comedy), or will be based on a personal hobby or quirk of his. Murray is also said to embed some of the NFTs with his version of stories which were shared in the 2018 documentary, ‘The Bill Murray Stories: Life Lessons Learned from a Mythical Man,’ which he didn’t actually partake in.
Collectively, the collection will provide Murray fans with an extremely eclectic, personal and novel medium of owning memoirs of the legendary comedy figure.
